Deejay Punk Roc - My Beatbox

Just came across these jems while searching the net. F.U.N.K.Y!!!

Maxxi Soundsystem

Just found about this guy heard some great music of the deep and funky house types. Here's a short bio from his page and then we'll dive into the disco!

Before the runaway success of club hit ‘Criticize’ which exploded everywhere at the beginning of the year from Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show to being featured on Beats in Space Best of 2010 Sam Watts had been DJing, putting on parties and working hard in his studio for a number of years in his home town of Brighton.

Locally Sam is known more for the schtumm! parties which he runs with long time friend and DJ partner Neal Lewis which have brought many exciting acts (often for their debut show) to Brighton over the years, from Radio Slave to mulletover and Tensnake to the Idjut Boys.

Club nights aside his studio work began more intensely when working with Thomas Gandey in Cagedbaby, which he toured with playing live in 2008 and co-write a live version of the tour which performed several shows across the globe including Buenos Aires, Istanbul, Barcelona, Rockness, Glastonbury and the O2 Festival in Hyde Park. Sam & Tom regularly still work together.

With a strong drive to be creative and improve on each project Sam has been putting long hard hours in his studio this year and already remixed Wax Motif & Neoteric, Hercules & Love Affair, The 2 Bears and Retro/Grade. As a follow up to Criticize, Maxxi Soundsystem has been signed to Nervous Records new imprint Nürvous which is dedicated to the sounds of old house music (EP out this summer). Currently working with Miami man of the moment Danny Daze on new material and London vocalist Royston there’s some really exciting new music about to drop.

Catch Maxxi Soundsystem playing live in 2011 with shows including Glastonbury, Glade, Disco Bloodbath, Ministry Of Sound, Garden Festival Croatia, We Love… @ Space Ibiza and Creamfields; proving he can rock any dancefloor that’s put in front of him; playing a set made up of his own edits and remixes plus music plucked from his 8 years experience playing in clubs
Here's his latest release with all 3 going down well in my books. Be sure to pick them up at Beatport if they make you dance :)

It's on vinyl too (which is awesome!) at Juno

Here's a freebie that's quite groovy and it's a high quality Aiff file.

Jonas Rathsman

Nu disco has had a special place in my heart and playlists lately and here's a good reason why. I just came across Jonas on SoundCloud while browsing the page for the label he manages, French Express. These two are uplifting good times on soundwaves...

Check out the label Jonas manages FRENCH EXPRESS for more funky treats!

Plump DJs

The Plumps come back in true breakbeat fashion with this 808 bomb of a track! I remember they played this when they were here in Orlando and the place went off! It'll be sure to do the same at any party you drop this at. DO YOU LIKE BASS?!?!?

U-Tern

Garnering universal respect from peers is not common for DJs-come-producers. U-Tern somehow managed it, and a reputation is steadily building for this humble Vancouverite. Spreading his obvious infatuation for all things music through his blog and weekly radio show, U-Tern is one of those individuals whose passion and drive are enviable. All that is secondary though: immaculate, charming disco-funk tracks are the standout here. U-Tern’s use of real instruments and his exceptional production chops translate into truly authentic pieces of music striking that balance between nostalgia and the 21st century." - URB

U-Tern makes really groovy and beautiful music. He also works under the moniker of Oliver with fellow producer Oligee. I've been diggin the nu disco and funky house styles as of lately and this guy hits the mark. 'Paradigm' is a track he made with AJK & Roxy on the mic, but never got a proper release. It's a slow roast at 115 BPM, but wow is it hot! With its breakbeat drums, lush pads, 80s tinged synths, and dreamy vocals, I get lost in another world. 'Dayshift' is a funky number that'll get 'em moving on the floor with its funktastic bass line and catchy vocoder vocals. 'Hot Mess' ups the ante with more of an electro vibe to it. There are plenty more under these top 3 that you've got to hear. So here are some tasty treats for you to get the party going:

Second City Rhythm (Adulture & Ghosts of Venice)

SECOND CITY RHYTHM is Garrett Shrigley and Lee Dunn, better known individually as Adulture and Ghosts Of Venice. They began producing together during their down time on a two week US Tour back in February of 2010. After a few days in the studio they came out with a track they were both proud to put their names on. This is a preview of what is to come from this new collaboration on the legendary label Dust Traxx Chicago. The idea of a duo seemed impossible as Lee lived in England and Garrett resided in Chicago. This track sat unreleased for almost a year before they decided to put everything else aside and concentrate on finishing their joint effort. Their Debut EP as Second City Rhythm is due for release in Spring 2011 along with plans for a new imprint/sister label of legendary Dust Traxx Chicago called Second City Records.
You Got Me is a perfect blend of the infectious aspects of disco with a reference to the Chicago house sound of yesterday... making it thee perfect introduction of this exciting project, Second City Rhythm.

WOW!!! All I can say is that this is what house music is all about! I will be playing these for a long time thats for sure. 'Da Musik' is groovy with its disco feel and the vocals keep you wanting more. 'You Got Me' bounces & twists, thanks in part to the funky guitar throughout the mix and the some clever vocal sampling. If you like it funky (as do I) you'll not want to miss out on these FREE DOWNLOADS. Below that I've posted these guys' solo work too.

Fort Knox 5

The FORT KNOX FIVE is a leading force in the international funk and breaks scene. Having released an arsenal of floor rocking singles and remixes, the FORT KNOX FIVE has the midas touch for producing heavy hitting records.

Sid Barcelona, Jon Horvath, Rob Myers and Steve Raskin are the masterminds behind the FORT KNOX FIVE. They established Fort Knox Recordings in 2003 to release party-rocking music that crosses tempos and defies genres. Their world renowned ‘Fort Knox Sound’ has overtaken dance-floors with its distinct interweaving of live instrumentation with funky electronic breakbeats. In 2006 they released the critically acclaimed ‘The New Gold Standard’ to showcase the groundbreaking sounds from their premier funk and soul label.

The FORT KNOX FIVE’s talent for organic hooks has made them highly sought after producers and remixers. They have over 20 remixes to their credit, including monster mixes for A. Skillz and Krafty Kuts, Kraak & Smaak, Ursula 1000, Dynamo Productions, and Mo’ Horizons, as well as remixes for the legendary Tito Puente, Louis Armstrong, and Bob Marley. The FORT KNOX FIVE has coined the term ‘Reminted’ to represent their signature remixing style. They released the first ‘Reminted’ CD showcasing some of their favorite productions in a continuous DJ mix in 2007.
FUNK, FUNK, FUNKY!!! That's the only way to describe these guys. They've done some stellar remixes you NEED TO HEAR! First up, "Ready or Crunk" is the classic Fugees record "Ready or Not" given the golden touch! "The Sax Pusher" is a funky saxophone melter mashed up with Afrika Bambaataa on the mic!! Third on your plate is "Hipster Run Tings" and it is a triple threat mashup! They took their tune "The Brazilian Hipster" and 'reminted' it with acapellas from The Bush Babees' "We Run Tings" and The Fugees' "Ooh La La".

After that I've posted their remixes of The Black Keys, Lyrics Born vs Hot Chocolate, BOB MARLEY, THE BEATLES & The Specials!!! After each player is the widget to download them. Just enter your email and the Fort Knox boys will send you a 320k mp3 free! Enjoy the funk my peoples...
